On April 23, 2024, Tiisetso Maloma, the director and founder of Bula Buka Publishers, will deliver a closed guest lecture to University of Pretoria publishing students.
The University offers an Honours Bachelor of Information Science in Publishing. The lecture, organized by Dr. Elizabeth le Roux, UP’s associate professor and Coordinator of Publishing Studies, will cover essential publishing topics, including:
- What it means to be a publisher in South Africa
- Entrepreneurial strategies for starting a publishing company, including self-funding and project management
- Obtaining internships and training from publishing companies
- Contracts and licensing, both locally and internationally
- Dealing with book agents
- Building confidence in the industry
- Strategies for surviving challenges in publishing
- How local publishers test the African and international market
